Bank Holiday - Getaway Ideas for the Long Weekend

🕤 5 min read

As we approach the last bank holiday before Christmas and with Summer coming to an end, what better way to enjoy the long weekend than with a getaway. Whether with family or just a romantic few nights away.

Here at Pure Luxuries we have put together some ideas as you see out the end of summer.

Simple Staycation

With abroad becoming the norm again after years of uncertainty, sometimes home comforts are just what you need. An isolated cosy cottage or log cabin is just the right thing for you and your travel companions as you take in the fresh air and gorgeous scenery.

Even better news is most have kitchens built in to allow you to cook and make it an affordable holiday destination. If a big group is going, why not split the cooking between you all so not just one of you is getting all worked up while you are supposed to be relaxing.

We are a bit biased thanks to being inspired by the Lake District for our Made By Stitch range but a secluded spot in this part of the UK will make the stress roll off your back.

Fly Away

By August, the sun is usually not quite at its brightest and this year could be the same after the heatwave that hit us in July. If that’s the case the only option for the sun lovers could be a small weekend break away.

The obvious candidate is the southern coast of Spain for a quick flight and holiday that’ll top up that tan and mean you can explore the local culture. Any destination other than the UK will be a haven for the sun worshippers so you can’t really go wrong.

As the resident chef, the idea of paella, fresh seafood and sangria has my mouth-watering.

Glamping

Now those festival-goers might groan at the idea of more time in a tent but this is a tent unlike any other. Much like a cottage or log cabin, absorb your surroundings in style.

The compact accommodation makes you feel closer to nature than ever and with the addition of a hot tub as some have, it’s a great way to see out the summer months.

These glamping sites have popped up across the UK so find a place near somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit.

Day Trippin’

The long weekend can be enjoyed in so many ways and not just staying in accommodation, why not just drop into a nearby city, village or nature park for a day trip. Take advantage of the local area to have a great day.

Hit up a local museum in the city to learn more about your surroundings, go on a food and drink tour of the best pubs and restaurants in the area or simply shop.

Tailor the day to you and your interests. A day of vinyl shopping and nice food sounds like a dream to me even if my bank account will groan afterwards.

Animal Time

I always have fond memories of visiting a zoo and taking in all the exotic animals in one place so why not treat your family to a day out.

Take your little ones or significant other to see their favourite animals, my partner will always seek out the sloth enclosure to find them lazily climbing through the trees above.

Great for getting kids interested, even more so in a topic they love and for those who are kids at heart who want a little light fun this August.

Whatever your plans this summer bank holiday, we hope you have a lovely time. Share your plans in the comments below.
