How to Keep Your Leather Looking New

🕤 4 min read

Good leather is built to last a lifetime - but a little care goes a long way in keeping it looking its best. Whether you've just unwrapped a new Pure Luxuries piece or you've been carrying yours for years, here are a few simple habits worth building in.

Keep it dry, but let it breathe

Leather and heavy rain aren't friends. If your bag does get caught in a downpour, gently pat it dry with a soft cloth and let it air dry naturally, away from direct heat like radiators or hairdryers - heat can cause leather to crack or stiffen over time.

Condition every few months

Just like skin, leather can dry out. A light leather conditioner applied every few months helps keep it supple and prevents small cracks from forming, especially through the colder, drier months of autumn and winter. We recommend our Neutral Nourishing & Protecting Leather Cream - apply sparingly and evenly to the surface with a cloth, then allow it to dry and buff before using your bag again.

Store it properly

When you're not using your bag, keep it somewhere it can hold its shape - stuffed lightly with tissue paper, an old cushion, or spare clothes if needed - and out of direct sunlight, which can fade colour over time. A dust bag or soft cloth cover is ideal if you have one.

Clean spills quickly, but gently

Blot, don't rub. A soft, slightly damp cloth is usually enough for everyday marks. For anything more stubborn, a specialist leather cleaner is safer than reaching for household products.

Suede needs a slightly different approach

Suede is a little more delicate than smooth leather, so it's worth treating separately. Keep it away from water where you can - suede marks easily when wet, and rubbing at a fresh spill will only spread it further. If it does get wet, let it air dry naturally, then gently brush the area with a soft suede brush once fully dry to lift the pile back up. For everyday dust and light scuffs, a soft suede brush (or even a clean, soft-bristled toothbrush) works well - brush gently in one direction to keep the nap looking even.

Let the character show

A little natural wear isn’t a flaw - it’s the whole point. Every soft crease, surface mark, and shifting tone tells the story of a bag that’s genuinely being lived in.

We craft our Conkca styles using traditional vegetable-tanned leather, a process that uses natural plant tannins and bark rather than synthetic chemicals. Because the surface is left open and breathable rather than sealed under plastic coatings, it absorbs the oils from your hands, the sunlight, and everyday life. Over time, it develops a deep, lustrous patina unique to how you carry it.

With just a little regular care, your Pure Luxuries piece won’t just last for years to come - it will look richer with every mile. Find your forever bag now - browse our collection.
