Bring out the Pimm’s and dust off the BBQs, summer has arrived! Here at Pure Luxuries London, we are excited about this season’s cool and colourful trends. Whether you’re a glamourous guy or gal, a laid-back and casual character, or you like to break the mould and start your own trends, there is some inspiration here for every fashionista this summer.
So, pour out a glass of that Pimm’s and let’s dive into Pure Luxuries London’s top 8 favourite trends of Summer 2022…
1. Silky Summer
A silk scarf is an affordable way to elevate any outfit, adding a touch of colour and sophistication. Wear to keep the sun off your shoulders, accessorise your handbag or as an elegant hair accessory. I love to buy vintage silk scarves from second-hand shops. They are both affordable and adorable, and chances are, nobody else will be wearing the same scarf as you!
I have paired this silk scarf I found at a local charity shop with my favourite green summer dress and our 'Milton' extra large tote bag in Saddle Tan.
P.S. Oversized bags are huge this season! Great news for people like me who love to carry everything with them at all times.
2. Y2K is STILL Here!
We mentioned the Y2K style in our last style edit and it seems that it isn't going anywhere any time soon. I am a millennial, and if you asked me a couple of years ago, I would have told you that I was happy for the butterfly clips, low-rise jeans and kitschy aesthetics to stay in the late 90s and early 00s. But alas, they are back and to be honest, I am not quite as mad as I originally thought I was.
While it is going to take me a lot more convincing to get on board with low-rise jeans, I can totally get along with the more relaxed and grungier take on Y2K styling. Dungarees were huge in the 90s and for the first time in my life, I have found one that fits my 6ft frame.
I have worn these black denim dungarees with the Pure Luxuries London 'Ermes' convertible crossbody clutch bag in black for a simple and wearable take on this bubblegum-crazed trend!
3. Put a Fringe On It
Since it stole the fall/winter 2020 runways, fringes have been a focal point of fashion and this trend has continued into Summer 2022. Fringed additions to outfits can add a laidback and casual western look or even a sophisticated and timeless 1920s style.
In the photo above, I paired the 'Ermes' crossbody clutch bag (which I wore in the previous image in a daytime look) with a stunning vintage, fringed dress.
FYI - this 'Ermes' crossbody doubles up as a clutch bag! The only bag you will need to take you from day to night. By simply removing the strap, you can convert this crossbody into a cute and spacious clutch!
4. Coastal Grandma
Our CMO/Graphic Designer, Faye, is the queen of the 'Coastal Grandma' aesthetic and she didn't even know it. While Faye may not be too happy about me referring to her look as anything 'grandma-aesthetic', she always looks amazing in this laid-back and effortlessly chic style.
You can achieve the 'Coastal Grandma' look that has taken 'fashiontok' by storm by incorporating neutral shades, earthy textures, natural fabrics and classic patterns together. Think nautical stripes (our designer/managing director is the no.1 fan of the Breton stripe), cashmere, linen and freshwater pearls, finished with a summery straw hat and you will have the look on point.
Faye shows us how it is done in the image above, with a classic striped dress, our 'Milton' tote bag in Smoky blue and our 'Oxford' 100% cashmere scarf in Oatmeal (for when the clouds cover the summer sun!).
5. Going Green
We aren’t just going green to save the planet, we are also painting our wardrobes green this summer. With lightweight lime green jackets, emerald slip dresses and forest green mules in the high street windows, you can add as much or as little green to your outfit as you please.
A simple satin slip dress in emerald green is sure to make a statement at any formal occasion this summer. We think it looks great paired with the Conkca 'Cherish' clutch bag in navy, for a contrast a little more subtle than classic black.
6. Who Likes Short Suits? We Like Short Suits
Hot weather and suits don’t really go hand in hand, but short suits are here to save the day! I can’t remember a time when tailored looks weren’t taking over the runways, but short suits are a much more laid-back take on head-to-toe tailoring. They are the perfect way to look chic while keeping cool and comfortable.
Be as bold and bright or as classic and understated as you please with your short suits, express yourself! I love browns and vintage patterns, so I adore this beige checked short suit. Paired with the Pure Luxuries London 'Chatham' handbag in Tan, it is the perfect outfit for summer at the office.
Another trend that began on TikTok rather than the catwalk is the 'Cottagecore'. While it has been around for a while now, summer is the perfect time for it to flourish! This aesthetic celebrates the dream of a more simple, rural and peaceful life, but it doesn't mean you have to live in the countryside to wear it!
Achieve this look by wearing your favourite ditsy floral prints with frills, lace, pastels and natural materials. I have styled this red, pink and cream floral dress with a pair of straw wedges and our 'Langdale' crossbody bag in Blush Pink for a look that makes me feel like I have stepped straight off the set of Taylor Swift's 'Love Story' music video. Now, where is Romeo?
8. Short and Chic
Dan, our office chef is happy to hear that it isn't just short suits that are in this season. Checked shorts, flared shorts, skinny shorts, short shorts... they are in every shop window this summer!
For a laid-back and casual look when on the go, Dan has paired his checked shorts with the Conkca 'Rivellino' holdall in Conker Brown, perfect for those summer holidays!
